Our Music

We love music. It brings smiles, connects us, and sweeps troubles away (for at least the length of the song!)

We wrote, arranged, sang, recorded all but three songs on En Mi Casa and In My House. (You’ll recognize those 3 as classics we borrowed from the public domain.)

Our own songs bubbled up naturally in our life with 2 very active and curious boys, 2 years apart. Because we are both musicians, we found ourselves singing whatever we could narrate. When crossing the street, we’d sing about looking both ways. When setting the table, we’d sing about plates or broccoli.

We recommend this activity for families with some language proficiency. No need to be a great singer. In fact, it’s funnier if you’re trying a tune, and not quite hitting it.

Someone with limited singing ability doing a full throttle opera voice can be fairly funny. We’ve proven the concept at our house.

Our songs will help you with many common situations. We hope they help you make learning language more playful. We’d love to know that we’ve helped you sing more together for the fun of it, something we probably don’t do enough of in our culture.

Do you believe in the joy of singing?   You probably will after hearing this essay by Brian Eno on NPR’s This I BelieveBrian Eno on the beauty of singing together
